Wrapped In A Dream - Spyro Gyra:
Showcased on Edition 398 - March 12th, 2006

It's now been 30 years since Spyro Gyra first delivered their innovative blend of jazz fusion, pop, and R&B. Founded & fronted by Jay Beckenstein the band has regularly been at the forefront of the contemporary scene due in no small part to the creative chemistry between Beckenstein and keyboardist Tom Schuman, the only other original member.

Midnight Thunder - Spyro Gyra:
Featured on Fresh Trax Edition 397 - March 5th, 2006

In the mid 70s, Spyro Gyra created a new & unique sound, one that was inspired by a blending of jazz fusion, pop, and R&B. Their debut was released in 1976. Now 30 years and 24 albums later, leader Jay Beckenstein confesses, "… it's not always easy to develop new material." Over the years, there has generally been an attempt to veer away from what was done on previous records while simultaneously attempting "to embrace anything that explores new ground." This philosophy has kept the sound of the band fresh and allowed them to maintain their position as a front-runner on the contemporary scene. A case in point is this latest release ... go to the feature.

Shaker Song - Spyro Gyra:
Featured on Back Trax Edition 372 - August 21st, 2005

Band founder Jay Beckenstein enjoyed working many of the clubs in Buffalo NY while he attended college, but after a time he wanted something other than just being a sideman. Jay began doing some off night sessions and it was this that evolved into the band Spyro Gyra. At pretty well the same time, Beckenstein went into business with Rich Calandra & together they produced a number of local acts. When there was studio time left over, they would record Spyro Gyra. Having met with little success with the other groups, they pressed 500 albums of Spyro Gyra material. Within a year they had sold tens of thousands of copies, signed a record deal and launched the band's career. From that very first effort released back in 1976, we feature Shaker Song !!
