Richard Elliot's career has been well documented by us and by others. When he was just three, his family moved from Glasgow to Los Angeles and it was while he was in junior high that Elliot first took up the sax. However, he didn't entertain any thoughts of a career in music until a couple of years later when it turned out that his high school music instructor did some moonlighting as a studio musician. In any event, when he was just 17 & still in school, Richard landed his first professional gig touring with Natalie Cole and The Pointer Sisters. For a time he played in the fusion band called Kittyhawk, and followed that by taking part in a few sessions with ... more about Richard.

Coastline - Richard Elliot:
Featured on our Best of '05 Review Part 1: Edition 390 - Jan. 1st, 2006

The best laid plans of mice & men sometimes go astray and such was the case with this excellent album. In my haste to give new & lesser known artists an opportunity to be heard, I sometimes tend to overlook more established stars that really don't need my support to be successful. They've done it already & without me!! At seventeen Richard landed his first professional gig touring with Natalie Cole and The Pointer Sisters. For a time he played in a fusion band called Kittyhawk; that was followed by a few session with some legendary Motown artists, among them Smokey Robinson, The Four Tops and The Temptations. Elliot then enjoyed some touring & recording with The Yellowjackets, that was ... continued reading.

Metro Blue - Richard Elliot:
Showcased on Edition 377 - September 25th, 2005

The Scottish born sax player's family moved from Glasgow to Los Angeles when he was just 3. It was in junior high that Elliot first took up the sax, but he didn't think of it as a career until high school when it turned out his teacher was a studio musician. At 17 & while still in school, Elliot landed his first professional gig touring with Natalie Cole and The Pointer Sisters. For a time he played in the fusion band called Kittyhawk, and followed that by taking part in some sessions with legendary Motown artists, among them Smokey Robinson, The Four Tops and The Temptations. Elliot toured & recorded with The Yellowjackets and between those dates, he did still more tour work this time with Melissa Manchester. 1982 was a pivotal year in Elliot's career as that was when he joined Tower Of Power. Elliot fondly recalls the 5 years that he spent with the legendary ensemble as the most influential period of his early career ...read more .
