Saxations - Pamela Williams:

on our Best of '05 Review Part 1: Edition
390 - Jan. 1st, 2006
I first got hooked on her music with The Saxtress, Pamela Williams' 1996
debut, and ever since then I've definitely enjoyed an affinity for her
playing. There was little that transpired in the years that followed that
would cause me to alter that opinion that is until the release of The
Perfect Love in 2003. On The Perfect Love, Pam suddenly took her music
to an entirely new level!! That was when I realized that Ms Williams was
indeed the "first lady of sax" and so naturally I've given her, her due
ever since!!
So was I excited when Pam followed that release with Sweet Saxations in
2005? Well in a phrase ... read
more about Pam.

We
take this opportunity to musically profile Pamela Williams, the "first
lady of sax". One of Pam's earliest influences was Grover Washington
Jr. It was Grover's cutting-edge blend of jazz and R&B that instilled
an interest in that style of playing. In high school, Williams joined
the Jazz Ensemble & embraced both contemporary and traditional forms.
A multitalented artist who plays flute as well as a little piano, Williams
made her solo debut in 1996 with The Saxtress, an album which immediately
brought her name into the limelight ... go

Saxations - Pamela Williams:
Showcased
on: Edition
363 - April 10th, 2005
Not sure if you've heard the word, but the first lady of sax is back!!
I'm referring of course to Pamela Williams. Williams has resided in
California since the late 80s, although it was her time growing up in
Philadelphia that was primarily responsible for molding her musical
identity.
One of her earliest influences was Grover Washington Jr. It was Grover's
cutting-edge blend of jazz and R&B that first instilled Pamela with
an interest in that style of playing. In high school, she joined the
Jazz Ensemble and embraced both contemporary and traditional forms.
She scored a few gigs & toured extensively but chose to relocate
to LA in 1989, primarily because of the opportunities it afforded in
film, TV, & session work. Prior to launching her career as a solo
performer, Pam was the featured saxophonist with both Patti Labelle
and Teena Marie. In addition, she appeared with Babyface & Sheila
E, and was also featured on ... read

Saxations - Pamela Williams:
Featured
selection on The QR: Edition
356 - March 27th, 2005
Have you ever just naturally connected with a person and their music?
Well that's the way it is for me and Pamela Williams. The more that
I listen to Pamela, the more obvious it becomes that Ms Williams is
indeed the first lady of sax. I've long been a fan, but on The Perfect
Love, her previous release Pamela took her artistry to a new level.
In the process, she presented her most consistent and accomplished work
to date. That is until now. Each time I go back to Sweet Saxations,
her latest release, I discover something new, exciting and fresh! I've
already slotted five selections for our program and can see ...

Fly
Away With Me - Pamela Williams:
Featured
on Fresh Trax: Edition
345 - - January 9th, 2005
The first lady
of sax is back! Pamela has always enjoyed exhibiting the many diverse
elements of her repertoire from Latin and jazz, to R&B, hip-hop and
house. On The Perfect Love, her previous release (first on Shanachie
Records and fourth overall) Ms Williams definitely elevated her game.
In the process, she presented what may well have been her most accomplished
work to that point in her career. That is until now. The terrific success
of that album, prompted a follow up project and I for one couldn't be
more excited! From her forthcoming Sweet Saxations cd we're pleased
to present Fly Away With Me, the advance single. If this track is any
indication of what lies in store on the rest ...
