Featured on Back Trax
Edition 387 - December 4th, 2005
At the age of twelve, Chaquico fell victim to a drunk driver. Despite multiple injuries, Craig's desire to play guitar became his motivation for recovery. He started gigging around town in the Bay Area and soon after Grace Slick recruited him as lead guitarist for Jefferson Starshiphough he was only sixteen at the time, Grace Slick . Following his stint with Starship, Chaquico was unsure of which path to follow in music but fate stepped in. Chaquico's wife happened to be pregnant at the time and to quote Craig "the electric guitar was not as welcome around the house." He started messing around with his acoustic guitar and soon remembered its healing tendencies ... more about Craig.

Samba Del Luna - Craig Chaquico & Russ Freeman :
Featured on Back Trax Edition 375 - September 11th, 2005
Since launching his career in the mid 80s Russ Freeman has achieved recognition as a top guitarist & producer in the SJ genre. He's enjoyed a string of successes with the Rippingtons, as a solo artist, & with several other projects. Meanwhile, Craig Chaquico initially enjoyed the pop & rock spotlight as a member of Jefferson Starship before switching gears & taking up acoustic guitar. In the early 90s he launched his solo career as he branched into new age & then smooth jazz. In that regard his efforts put him squarely at the forefront of the contemporary movement. In any event, the two connected back in 1998 for their one time collaboration From the Redwoods to the Rockies & a release that proved to be one the finer albums of the year. From that effort we're featuring Samba del Luna. It's a beautifully structured piece ... check feature.
